Family meal.
Had a day out in Winchester and thought we'd try somewhere different from the usual pub lunch so wondered down from the farmers market to El Sabio in Eastgate Street. First impressions are great, welcomed in plenty of space to sit as there are 2 offset areas and a rather pleasant Terrace beside the river. We chose the river setting as the sun was out and it is well sheltered from the breeze.
The waiter produced menus which were full of familiar ingredients but made to sound sumptuous. So we dived in with an order of 6 dishes of Tapas for the kids and a Mixed Seafood Paella for the parents to share.
A jug of Sangria arrived on the table closely followed by the food and we were instantly transported to Sunny Spain with colour, spice and smell. The Paella was superb, full of shellfish (clams, King Prawns, Mussels, Tiger Prawns, Languostines) plus Monkfish and Swordfish, a beautiful rich colour but nice and light to eat. The Tapas too was excellent, the kids chose well going for Calamari, Chicken & Chorizo Skewers, Garlic Prawns, Meatballs,Chorizo on Toast and a small classical Paella (I had the pleasure of finishing the last spoonful of that and it was full of flavor).
So the Venue is very nice, food and service excellent (this was Sunday Lunch so not sure how busy it gets in the evening), Price worked out with the drinks we had and some baskets of bread at £16.25/head which I felt was excellent value for money.
Will we go back ? Oh yes, can't wait.
